How to Romanticize Grocery Day

Even the most mundane routines can feel like a warm hug with a shift in perspective. I’m sharing how I turned our grocery haul days into a cozy ritual—from handwritten lists on ivory lined paper to reusable bags, woven farmers market baskets, and a reward latte on the way home. This is your permission slip to slow down, set the tone, and find beauty in the ordinary. Because homemaking is more about how it feels, not so much about how it looks.

Venturing to the grocery store with multiple littles absolutely horrendous for me when my three oldest were little. They were all two years apart and during the baby to toddler phase having three little ones under the age of five at the grocery store was a no for me. Curbside pick up became my best friend during those years. Now that my son is five he has outgrown his heavy testing boundaries phase and into such a sweet and funny character. My girls are nine and seven now and so incredibly helpful, i’m so excited for our newest addition to arrive. I believe this age gap will be my favorite.

We make grocery store days an event, it takes up the whole day but we do it as a family and it's quite enjoyable! I get ready for the day, hair, makeup, a comfy but cute outfit. The kids get ready, hair done up too. It's nice because I get to snap some photos throughout our day and being put together makes us feel good. When you feel good about yourself, you're more productive, at least in my case. We pack up our market bags and baskets and head out to make the mundane beautiful.

My husband swings us by a coffee place and we all get our little drinks, we hit the grocery store first and let the kids help put things in the cart from our list. Sometimes we split up in the store. I'll take my oldest to one section while my husband takes the other two for a small moment of one on one time. Those 5-10 minutes do make a difference. After our grocery haul we head back home to let the dogs out while we put it all away and head back out to grab some lunch.

Recently I needed a couple of things from Whole Foods so we purchased our little loot and had lunch there. We sat outside and enjoyed our meal and decided to head to Target for some light shopping. Some days we chose to check out the Saturday farmers market after the grocery store, get some of our produce there, and have lunch from one of the vendors. We open the trunk to our suv and the kids pile up in there and eat their meal in the shade while we all enjoy the live music. While the grocery store may not be fabulous, we can make the day special and it fills my cup when we do it this way. We return home on these days with full bellies, our new treasure and chocolate stash and spend the evening via candle and lamp lighting with a simple but made with love meal, a meal and memory we share together.
